The First Era

What this site was, before it became what it is

The first run of Supplemental Sound was a lot of nights out: concert reviews and write-ups on shows and venues across Kansas City, interviews with local artists, and a camera roll's worth of photos from the floor — most of which still live at @supplementalsound. Along the way it earned an invitation to talk KC music on the Badass Records podcast, which remains a point of pride.

Then life did what life does. The cadence slowed, the site went quiet, and the domain sat parked while the shows kept happening without anyone writing them down.

The archive isn't a graveyard. It's a foundation.

Rather than pretend none of it happened — or spend months excavating old posts — the second era starts clean and points back with respect. Pieces of the first era survive in the Wayback Machine and on Instagram. The new work starts with the next show.
